National Museum of Rural Life

As part of this term's topic we visited the National Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride.

The wet weather didn't deter us and soon we were boarding the bus for the Farm Museum. On arrival we were given our own special room to leave our coats and then we were off to the Learning Centre in the main Exhibition building.

Our first workshop was called 'Field to Fork'. Chris showed us how the farmer planted the seeds in the soil and how the seeds needed sunshine and rain to make them grow into wheat.

We also got a worksheet to make and colour which showed how eventually the wheat is ground into flour and made into bread.


We were also shown how to plant our own sunflower seeds and beans. We have brought them back to school and hopefully we can look after them and see them grow.

We then had a look round the main Museum. There were lots of things to see including old tractors and farm implements before it was time for lunch.

After lunch we visited the Garden Detectives exhibition. We had great fun dressing up as insects and butterflies, making giant jigsaws of animals, fishing for different types of fish and crawling through tunnels to find different animals like hedghogs and stoats!



All too soon it was time to leave and after a quick visit to the shop we had to catch the bus back to school.

We had a great time and have to thank Chris and his team for a great, well organised day.
